Hi, my name is Andreas Helbig.
In short: Proud father of a little son, husband of a beautiful wife, full-time software developer and amateur photographer.
The longer version why you see this website: I started rather late with photography… in fact, when my girlfriend and I went on vacation, I hated to take pictures with her camera. It was more kind of burden than fun for me and was often very annoyed when she asked me to take some pictures while we were on vacation. Time has gone by and for our first vacation to the United States/Florida, I bought my first camera: A digital Canon PowerShot to capture some moments of our trip. For me, as a “computer addicted” software developer, this form of taking pictures was much more enjoyable. So over the next years, I was quite happy with this camera and when the first DSLRs were affordable for consumers I bought a Canon EOS 450D/Rebel XSi.
But when I look back: I used it again like my old POS-Camera and only on vacation. Then in 2011 two things happened which changed my life and my view on photography:
- My girlfriend (now wife 🙂 ) became pregnant with our little son, so I thought, that taking pictures/memories of him will be necessary for the upcoming years.
- I joined Google+ in summer 2011 and was amazed by all the beautiful art the people shared. Soon I discovered Trey Ratcliff and was (like many others) completely blown away by his photos and post processing techniques!
These influences were the key moment for me to start a different approach to shooting photos with my camera, the mix of my main passion: computers/software with digital imaging and post processing. Since that time I try to learn more about photography and post processing, but I think I am just at the beginning of my journey, and there is so much more to try and to learn.
Short reminder: As you may have noticed, English is not my native language, so I apologize for any mistakes and hope that I will improve on this field too.
