After I had a longer talk with Mel, Ray, and Bryan (all from my cohort of the Arcanum), where they gave me a lot of valuable tips. So I updated the route of my trip, following their recommendations.

The main stopovers are still the same. But I had to switch the night stay from Las Vegas to St. George because of the length of this stage. Ray mentioned that it would beneficial, to choose routes with less traffic and the option to take pictures on the way. Instead of just collecting miles on the Interstate Highways. The downside of this decision is that the according stages are significantly longer than before.

The biggest correction of my route affects the section from Moab to Las Vegas. I skipped Las Vegas as the destination of this part of my journey because I would arrive at my hotel very late that night. I have chosen to drive the Highways 24 and 12, which are also known as the Scenic Byway. Both are two of the ten most beautiful Highways of the USA. The new route leads me to two additional parks, Bryce National Park and Zion National Park. My stopover for this night will be in St. George, which is about half the way to Lee Vining. On the next part of my way, I will pass by Las Vegas on the Bruce Woodbury Beltway. Maybe I will make a short detour over the Sunset Strip, but I’m not sure about this yet. And then I will take Highway 95 through the Death Valley up to Lee Vining. There I have made a motel reservation, so I am not wasting time in searching for accommodation.

Starting from Lee Vining, I will drive over the Tioga Pass through Yosemite National Park with direction to Modesto. If everything turns out well, I will meet Janelle and Micah, two other apprentices of the Arcanum. Beside of Ray, who visited Germany last winter with his family, I only met the other members of my group only online via Google Hangout. From Modesto, I follow the Interstate 5 straight to Ventura. I hope to arrive there in the evening.

The following two days, I will stay in the Los Angeles area, I’m looking forward to seeing Ray and his family again. An additional Event has made it on my schedule: On October 1st the annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk is going to happen, and I have the chance to participate because Ray is leading a walk too.

But right after the Photowalk, I have to leave Ventura, to get to the Los Angeles Airport. For this last part on the road, I have chosen Highway #1 along the shoreline through Malibu and Santa Monica.

I’m so curious if everything works like I have it planned …
